I would like to give you as much information about this car as I have to help you with your decision. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email and ask. lesliehiattatgmaildotcom I have owned this car since 2003. It's engine was blown when we purchased it, but my father and VW enthusiast friend Dave completed the engine restore. The engine was started on May 1, 2004 at 46,227 miles and has been running great ever since! It quickly accelerates and then coasts easily around 70 driving straight and true. In addition to the custom engine with dual carburetors, this car has custom wheels with a stud conversion kit installed, custom seats, and a sun roof that does not leak. Instead of the old tape player that was in it previously, we installed a Lanzar, VBD700, flip down detachable CD player with 2 6x9 speakers in the rear deck, a round speaker in each door panel, and 2 tweeters on the dash. We have kept up with the oil, sump screen, and filter changes. The transmission and starter seem to be in working condition (we have never had to do anything to them). We have replaced the battery, alternator and brakes. A Haynes repair manual will be included with the car. The interior is in near perfect condition except for some discoloration to the headliner from the previous owner. The front and bench seats seem to have no wear and look nice with the VW floor mats. The front seats are on adjustable tracks and recline fully. The previous owner installed a custom steering wheel and a Scat custom, high-performance, short-throw shifter with reverse lockout. The front and rear seat belts are functional with the Porsche fox logo. It also has a center storage console. The luggage compartment is very clean. The spare is a full size, new tire with a chrome wheel. There is a jack, tire iron, and tool pouch that came with the car. Speedometer and indicators are in working condition. The fuel gauge does need adjustment as a quarter left means it is almost empty and three-quarters means it is almost full. The floor pans and under-carriage are in good condition and so are the heater channels. As soon as the engine gets heated up, the car starts getting warmer from the channels. No air conditioning of course, but the fans work and side windows are great at channeling in air to the front seats. The exterior has no known dents, but does have some rust bubbles. With a little sanding and paint would be as good as new. The bumper has slight surface rust but is solid. The running boards are new as are the door seals. Here are a few of the things we restored: · Engine: see details below, new heater boxes, new muffler, new tail pipes We went through an old JC Whitney catalog and found most of the components used in the restoration and were surprised when it totaled over $4,000 and I am sure we missed a few things. Here are the details of the engine: 1640cc Dual Port Engine Details Back in Missouri, my dad had several VW experts take a look at this car and they all agreed that the car is in great shape. They told him not to let me sell it for less than $6,500. Fifteen thousand miles later it is still in great shape, and I know it is worth the $5,000! Random information: Typically, it gets between 25 and 30 mpg, usually 27, depending on whether it is city/highway etc. It is loud! Most boys think it sounds awesome. Listen to the video... it has set off our other car's alarm in the morning before!
